So Peaceful

A couple of Monday’s ago I watched my niece and nephew. There has been a lot of change in their lives recently. We have come to the conclusion keeping them separated right now is the answer to both of their survival. My nephew played video games and I offered a craft to my niece. After the craft failed – I set her up in the garage to paint “BIG STYLE“. I told her just to have fun and I quickly showed her how fun spirals and squigglies are, and left her to it. She came in for a bit to play a board game and when she lost – she was right back out there painting. At the end of our day together she told her brother about painting – “You should try it…its so peaceful”. I don’t remember who turned me on to art, I don’t remember when I figured out that it had a calming effect on my soul. But it is cooler than I can put into words to hear her say that.

My first painting since BIG is about this moment with my niece. I’m even more curious now… by painting my niece I wonder a lot about little 4th grade me.
